Arsh Chowdhry presents research on discovering tradeoffs between fairness and accuracy at MODeM 2024

Arsh presenting at MODeM

On the 20th of October, our recent MSc graduate Arsh Chowdhry, travelled to Santiago de Compostela for the Multi-Objective Decision Making Workshop (MODeM) hosted at the European Conference of Artificial Intelligence (ECAI 2024).

At the workshop, Arsh presented his Masters research entitled Discovering Trade-offs in Fairness and Accuracy: A Multi-Objective Approach, a novel method for training classification models using multi-objective optimisation, such that the resulting models can be simultaneously accurate and fair.

This a new and important way of thinking about how to train machine learning models, empowering decision makers to build AI systems that do not discriminate based upon protected characteristics.
