Tess Butler-Ulrich is a Doctor of Education student at Ontario Tech University. In her role as a research assistant at the STEAM-3D Maker Lab, she has been involved in a number of projects on maker pedagogies, STEM education, and AI. She recently completed her Masters degree which focused on developing Ethical AI Literacy in youth through critical thinking and applied AI knowledge. She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology, where she focused on cognitive psychology and worked on a number of research projects involving speech, memory, aging, and voice. She is passionate about getting youth involved in STEAM, and has developed and delivered workshops on gaining skills for various technology tools, such as micro:bit and Teachable Machine, for both teachers and youth. In 2023, she completed a Maker-in-Residence position at University of Toronto Schools in the Lang Innovation Lab.
Other research interests include critical digital literacies, environmental learning, AI-human relationships, speculative futures, design fiction, and philosophies of education and science.
