Joelma Peixoto holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ontario Tech University. During her doctoral studies, she concentrated on real-time autonomous systems development, paying close attention to decision-making processes informed by context awareness and event uncertainty. Her work also emphasized the real-time collaboration of resources and information among autonomous systems, and the clarification and transparency of their decision-making processes.

Additionally, Joelma has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Universidade Federal do Ceará in Brazil. Her areas of expertise include full-stack web development, multimedia systems, mobile and ubiquitous computing, game-based learning, robotics, intelligent systems, and machine learning. Recently, she began a role as a Research Fellow at the Trustworthy AI Lab, focusing on Accessible Explainable AI.
